James Chapter 3

James Chapter 4

3.             Patience, don’t grudge

4.             Farmer waiting for the land to yield its crop

I Peter Chapter 1

I Peter Chapter 3

4.             Sober and watchful (clearminded and self-controlled NIV)

8.             Speaking and serving, that God may be glorified

9.             Fiery trials which try us

10.         Rejoice, happy, don’t be ashamed

11.         Murder, steal, doing evil, meddling

I Peter Chapter 5

1.             1) An elder  2) a witness of the suffering of Christ  3) a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed

2.             Oversight, be an example

3.             Peter was told by the Lord to feed his sheep. Now Peter is exhorting the elders to feed the flock of God

4.             Force (necessity), money, power

5.             A crown of glory that will never fade away

6.             God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves under God’s hand that He may lift you up

7.             Cast them on God for He cares for you

8.             1) Be sober  2) be vigilant   3) resist him

9.             Devour us

10.         Make you perfect, stablish, strengthen and settle you

11.         Glory and dominion for ever and ever

12.         Grace and peace

II Peter Chapter 1

1.             A servant and apostle of Jesus Christ

2.             He says this second epistle I now write

3.             To those that have obtained like precious faith

4.             Through knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord

6.             Divine nature

7.             1) Add virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and charity.   2) God will multiply grace and peace

8.             You will be fruitful, you will never fall, entrance into the everlasting kingdom

II Peter Chapter 2

1.             Damnable (destructive NIV) heresies

2.             Covetousness (greed NIV)

3.             1) He saved Noah from the flood   2) He saved Lot out of Sodom and Gomorrah

4.             Lust, presumptuous, self-willed, brute beasts, spots, blemishes, adulterous eyes, covetous, wells without water, servants of corruption, dogs returning to vomit

5.             Speak evil of dignitaries, speak evil of things they don’t understand, beguiled unstable souls, follow ways of Balaam, entice people that were clean

6.             Angels

7.             They deny the Lord that bought them, They forsook the right way and have gone astray, They had escaped the pollutions of the world

8.             He loved the wages of unrighteousness

9.             Damnation, utterly perish in their own corruption, the reward of unrighteousness, mist of darkness forever, latter end worse than the beginning, it would have been better for them not to have know

10.         Dogs, sows

 

II Peter Chapter 3

1.             Pure minds by way of remembrance

2.             In verse 2 he wrote about words spoken by prophets as commandments of the apostles. In verse 16 he compares Paul’s writings to other scriptures (probably reference to Old Testament)

3.             Scoffers

4.             The earth rose from the water, the flood of Noah’s day

5.             World that then was (before flood), now is (present world), and new earth

6.             One day with the Lord is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day

7.             His longsuffering, not willing that any should perish

8.             That any should perish

9.             Reserved for fire, elements shall melt, earth burned up

10.         We ought to live holy and godly lives

11.         A new heaven and new earth wherein dwells righteousness

12.         We should give diligence to be found spotless and blameless

13.         Some were hard to understand

14.         Lest you be led away in error and fall from stedfastness

15.         In grace and knowledge of Jesus

16.         To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen

I John Chapter 1

1.             John said in his gospel “In the beginning was the word…and the word was God.  In I John he said “That which was from the beginning we have heard, seen and looked upon the word of life

2.             Heard, saw, handled the word of Life

3.             1) That you may have fellowship with us  2) That your joy may be full

4.             God is light and in Him is no darkness at all

5.             1) If we say we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness, 2) If we say that we have no sin, 3) If we say that we have not sinned

6.             Walk in the light as he is in the light

7.             If we confess our sin and walk in the light, the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin

 

I John Chapter 2

1.             That you sin not

2.             A lawyer who speaks in our defense

3.             For our sins and for the sins of the whole world

4.             He that says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments

5.             As he walked

6.             He that hates his brother

7.             He that loves his brother

8.             Little children (dear children, fathers, young men

9.             Not to love the world because if we love the world the love of the Father does not dwell in us. Also the world passes away

10.         1) Lust of the flesh  2) lust of the eyes  3) pride of life

11.         A liar

12.         Eternal life

13.         The anointing, truth, abiding in Him, doing righteousness

14.         Righteous

 

I John Chapter 3

1.             Great love

2.             Like him when he shall appear

3.             Purifies himself even as he is pure

4.             A transgression of the law

5.             To take away our sins

6.             The devil

7.             Does not commit (continue in) sin

8.             Those who do righteousness and love their brothers are of God. Those who don’t are of the devil

9.             Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous

10.         Because we love our brothers

11.         A murderer

12.         Jesus laid down his life for us

13.         With actions and in truth

14.         If our hearts condemn us not

15.         By the Spirit which he gave us

 

I John Chapter 4

1.             The spirits to see whether they are from God because many false prophets have gone out into the world

2.             Spirit of God—spirit of truth, Spirit of antichrist—spirit of error, (4) The spirit of antichrist

3.             27

4.             God is love

5.             God sent his only begotten Son to be the propitiation for our sins

6.             Love one another

7.             Boldness (confidence)

I John Chapter 5

1.             We would love others whom He has begotten

2.             They are not grievous (burdensome NIV)

4.             The Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost are one

5.             The spirit, the water, and the blood agree in one

7.             That you believe on the name of the Son of God and that you may know that you have eternal life

8.             If we ask according to His will he hears us, and that we have the petitions that we desired of him

9.             1) Sin which is not unto death  2) Sin unto death

10.         Whosoever is born of God does not continue to sin, That we are of God and the whole world lies in wickedness, That the Son of God is come and has given us understanding

3.             When brothers reported of the truth in Gaius. Also he had no greater joy than to hear his children walk in truth

4.             Walking in truth, faithful in what he did to the brethren and strangers, the charity he manifested

5.             Fellow helpers for the truth

6.             To have preeminence among them

7.             His deeds, His malicious words, He refused to receive the brethren, And forbid those who those who would and cast them out of the church

8.             He spoke well of him as did everyone

9.             In both epistles, he did not write everything that he could, hoping to see the readers face to face

10.         Greet them by name

Jude

1.             Jude, servant of Jesus Christ, brother of James

4.             The faith which was once delivered unto the saints

5.             Because evil men crept in unawares who turned the grace of God into lasciviousness and denied the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ

6.             Ungodly, sneaky (crept in unaware)

7.             1) Those saved out of Egypt afterwards were destroyed because of unbelief, 2) Angels which kept not their first estate (positions of authority NIV), 3) Those from Sodom and Gomorrah gave themselves over to sexual immorality and perversion

8.             1) Filthy dreamers defile the flesh—Sodom and Gomorrah, 2) Despise dominion—angels, 3)  Speak evil of dignities—those who left Egypt spoke evil of Moses

9.             Even Michael the archangel did not bring a slanderous accusation against the devil

10.         1) Speak evil of things they don’t know, v. 8 of dignities, 2) Brute beasts, v. 8 despise dominion, 3) Corrupt themselves, v. 8 defile the flesh

11.         1) Cain—did what was right in his own eyes but not God’s plan, 2) Balaam—loved the wages of unrighteousness, 3) Core (Korah)—rebelled against authority

12.         Spots, clouds without water, trees with withered fruit or without fruit, raging waves, wandering stars

13.         The Lord is coming with ten thousands of his saints, He will execute judgment upon all, He will convince all ungodly of their deeds, He will convince all ungodly of their hard speeches

14.         Murmurers, complainers, lustful, boasters, flatterers

15.         Peter

16.         Separatists (causers of division), sensual, not having the Spirit

17.         Building ourselves in the faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, wait for the mercy of Jesus

18.         On some have compassion, on others save with fear

19.         Keep you from falling, present you faultless before the presence of His glory

20.         1) Glory, 2) Majesty, 3) Dominion, 4) Power
