II. Suggestions for Implementing a Bible Reading Program

A.    Promotional service

The pastor introduces this program with a lesson on the importance of personal study of the Bible.  Some Scriptures that can be used are as follows:

... Give attention to reading... (1 Tim 4:13 )

Blessed is he who reads and those who hear ... (Rev 1:3 )

Nourishment -  'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word ....'" (Mat 4:4 )

The word of the LORD is Proven (Psa 18:30

For the word of the LORD is Right (Psa 33:4 )

Your word is Truth (John 17:17)

The entirety of Your word is truth (Psa 119:160 )

Every word of God is Pure (Prov 30:5 )

Psalm 19:7- 11 (text omitted to save space)

Method of Creation - The worlds were framed by the word of God…  (Heb 11:3 )

Sure Foundation - Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven. (Psa 119:89 )

Direction - Your word is a ...light to my path. (Psa 119:105)

Source of Faith - So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Rom 10:17

B.   Each day during the year.

Each person should read the daily Bible scripture first. The Holy Spirit can speak to them as they read. Only, after reading the complete passage for the day, should they try to answer the questions. If they are unable to answer a question, the verse(s) where the answer is found is in the parenthesis after the question. For example, in the reading in Acts chapter 10, question 13 is "How did Peter and the Jews who were with him know that the household of Cornelius received the Holy Ghost? (44-46)" If they do not know the answer they should read Acts 10:44-46 again to find the answer. People learn more if they dig out the answers themselves.

C. Possible suggestions for each week

The pastor or Bible teacher will either preach or teach something that is from the passage that they are reading or someone gives some thoughts from the weekly reading. This will keep the momentum going through the year.

Families also could play some Bible Games

D. Possible suggestions for each month

Have a game night each month at church using one or more of the Jeopardy style games that relate to the reading. Click here to see the entire list.

E. During the year

At intermediate dates recognize those who are on schedule. Also, some testimonies could be given of how the program is helping them.

E. At the end of a the year

Publicly recognize those who have completed the reading schedule in church or by some sort of banquet.
